The phrases

خوشkhush: happyAs in khushī (happiness), the root of English 'cushy'!

اداسudās: sadThe mood of every great ghazal.

تھکا ہواthakā huā: tired (male speaker)Women say 'thakī huī', gender agreement again.

مجھے بھوک لگی ہےmujhe bhūk lagī hai: I'm hungryLiterally 'hunger has attached to me', very vivid.

مجھے پیاس لگی ہےmujhe pyās lagī hai: I'm thirstySame pattern: thirst attaches.

سب ٹھیک ہے؟sab ṭhīk hai?: Is everything okay?Sab = everything/everyone. The caring check-in.

ماشاءاللہmashāAllah: wonderful! (lit. 'as God willed')Said when praising, babies, grades, biryani. Protects from the evil eye.

ان شاءاللہinshāAllah: God willing / hopefullyAttaches to any future plan. Also the world's politest 'maybe'.

کوئی بات نہیں، سب ٹھیک ہےkoī bāt nahīṉ, sab ṭhīk hai: No worries, everything's fineL10's comfort phrase + L13's sab ṭhīk. Instant reassurance.

کیا ہوا؟kyā huā?: What happened?Two words that open every real conversation about feelings.

حوصلہ رکھیںhausla rakheṉ: Keep your courage upHausla = spirit, nerve. What you say when there's nothing to fix.

مجھے اچھا لگ رہا ہےmujhe achhā lag rahā hai: I'm feeling goodLagnā again: things don't feel, they seem-to-you.

دل خوش ہو گیاdil khush ho gayā: That made my heart gladDil (heart) does the feeling in Urdu, not the person.

پریشانpareshān: worried, troubledPersian: scattered, dishevelled. Worry as a scattering of the self.

سکونsukūn: peace, calmThe most longed-for word in Urdu. Sukūn mil gayā: I found peace.

Good to know

✨ InshāAllah officially means 'God willing', but every desi child knows that 'inshāAllah, we'll see' from a parent means the theme-park trip is never happening. Learn the word AND its diplomatic uses.

✨ MashāAllah does double duty: praise plus protection. Complimenting a baby without it can earn you a sharp look, the word shields the praised from nazar (the evil eye).

✨ Hunger and thirst 'attach' to you in Urdu (bhūk lagī hai), the same grammar as liking things (pasand hai, L9). Feelings in Urdu are things that happen TO you, grammatically, you're never to blame.
