Good to know
✨ Pakistan's railways began with the Scinde Railway's Karachi–Kotri line, opened in 1861 — among the oldest in South Asia. The Karachi-to-Peshawar main line still spans the whole country.
✨ Safar means journey — and yes, English 'safari' comes from the same Arabic root, having traveled through Swahili on the way. A journey word that journeyed.
✨ Train, ticket, station, seat — Urdu absorbed the railway's English vocabulary and stamped it with its own pronunciation: ṭren, ṭikaṭ, isṭeshan, sīṭ. Say them the Urdu way and you're instantly more local.
